Commemorating the 500th Anniversary of the birth of Robert Recorde, the mathematician who invented the equals (=) sign, featuring over 50 artists of international renown.
Beneath Western Skies portrays not only Gillian's love of Pembrokeshire, but also her travels in the British Isles, which have taken her from Pembrokeshire to Cornwall, the English Lake District and to the Isle of Skye, as well as to the dramatic scenery of South West Ireland. Gillian places emphasis on using the natural light source in the landscape to illuminate the subject she is portraying. Skies, mountains and coastal scenes feature strongly in the exhibition, and her love of the natural world and wild places is evident from the inspiration she draws from these subjects.
All the images have been created using traditional film and printed on professional photographic paper using chemicals rather than inkjet inks. None of the images have been manipulated as she prefers to express the natural colours she sees in the landscape.
